Philadelphia to Sea Maintenance Pipeline Crossing
The Captain of the Port, Delaware Bay, is notifying mariners of dredging operations that will obstruct the main navigation channel of the Delaware River and the Chesapeake and Delaware (C&D) Canal. Three evolutions are planned which will necessitate strict enforcement of the safety zone surrounding dredging equipment.
The first of these evolutions is anticipated to take place on or about October 25, 2017 at the entrance to the C&D Canal.
The second is anticipated on or about October 29, 2017, also at the C&D Canal entrance.
Finally, the anticipated date to remove pipeline which crosses the New Castle Range of the Delaware River is October 31, 2017.
Each operation will obstruct the main navigation channel in these areas, will take place over approximately four hours, and will be conducted during slack tide. Each evolution will be announced by U.S. Coast Guard Broadcast Notice to Mariners via VHF- FM channel 16 once dates and times are finalized.
Vessels wishing to enter the C & D Canal or transit New Castle Range during these operations must contact the Dredge Illinois on VHF Ch 07 or Ch 13 to make passing arrangements. Mariners are advised that pipeline will be floating across the channel and extending outside both the green and red buoy lines during the evolution. Any questions can be directed to Sector Delaware Bay’s 24 hour command center at 215-271-4807.
