MARINE SAFETY INFORMATION BULLETIN

[MSIB 19-16]
July 21, 2016

TINICUM ISLAND RANGE, EDDYSTONE RANGE, CHESTER RANGE, AND MARCUS HOOK RANGE DREDGING

The Captain of the Port, Delaware Bay is advising mariners that Great Lakes Dredging will be conducting dredging operations within the navigational channel of the Delaware River, from the eastern point of Tinicum Island Range, south, to the southernmost point of Marcus Hook Range, beginning August 1, 2016 through March 15, 2017. The operation is part of the Army Corps of Engineers Delaware Main Channel Deepening Project in which the main navigational channel will be dredged to a controlled depth of 45 feet.

During the dredging operations, in the vicinity of the dredge, only one side of the navigational channel will be open for vessel traffic. Vessels approaching are requested to contact the dredge via VHF-FM Channel 13 or 16 to make safe passing arrangements, or request movement of the dredge at least 30 minutes prior arrival. At no time will the navigational channel be closed for vessel traffic.

The dredge NEW YORK will begin dredging operations from August 1, 2016 through March 15, 2017. Associated support equipment with the NEW YORK will include two scows, a scow towing vessel, and a tender tug.

The cutter suction dredge TEXAS will begin conducting dredging operations August 10, 2016 through October 1, 2016. Support equipment working the TEXAS will include the tug BRANGAS, tug PELICAN STATE, and additional support barges.

The drill boat APACHE will mobilize on site November 13, 2016 and commence rock blasting, dredging, and rock removal operations on December 1, 2016. A safety zone will be established for blasting operations. Further information regarding blasting operations and the safety zone will be publicized in future notices.
