SAFETY ZONE IN REEDY POINT SOUTH ANCHORAGE
FOR NEW CASTLE RANGE DREDGING
The Coast Guard is establishing a temporary safety zone around the upper portion of Reedy Point South Anchorage No. 3 to allow for the continuation of dredging operations in New Castle Range. The temporary safety zone is effective from December 4, 2015 until December 31, 2015 unless cancelled earlier by the Captain of the Port. The safety zone will encompass all waters of Reedy Point South Anchorage No. 3 upriver of a line drawn between positions 39°33’7.5”N, 75°33’2.0”W and 39°33’8.8”N and 75°32’31.8”W, as charted on NOAA chart 12311. While the Dredge ESSEX is operating within the area, vessels heading north through the Delaware River with intent to transit the Chesapeake and Delaware (C & D) Canal will be re-directed through this portion of the anchorage. Anchoring within the upper portion of the anchorage will not be permitted while the temporary safety zone is in effect.
Vessels heading south through the Delaware River with intent to pass the Dredge ESSEX should contact the Dredge ESSEX at least 1 hour prior to passage. The Dredge ESSEX will monitor VHF-FM channels 13 and 16, and can be contacted at 757-353-0455. Mariners are cautioned to remain a safe distance away from the dredge, buoys, cables, pipeline, barges, derricks, wires, and related equipment and are urged to operate at minimum steerage speed to reduce wake when transiting the area.
Any questions should be directed to the Coast Guard Command Center at (215) 271-4807 or channel 16 VHF.
