MARINE SAFETY INFORMATION BULLETIN
[MSIB 22-15]
APRIL 01, 2015
CHANNEL ASSESSMENT OPERATIONS
The Captain of the Port, Delaware Bay, is notifying mariners of rock level testing in preparation for the Delaware River main channel deepening project. The Great Lakes Dredge Company Drillboat APACHE will be probing the channel to determine rock levels between Eddystone Range and the Southern end of Marcus Hook Range. The APACHE will be operating in the channel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week starting April 9 until May 1, 2015. This project is for information gathering only and does not involve the removal of material. The APACHE will be operating under the navigation rules and will be able to move upon request; however, vessels should use caution when passing the Drillboat. If visibility should drop below 2NM, the APACHE will discontinue work in the channel and continue when visibility returns. The APACHE can be contacted on VHF channel 5 and will be monitoring VHF channel 13 and 16.
If you have any questions regarding the contents of this bulletin or the expectations of the Captain of the Port, please contact the Waterways Management staff at (215) 271-4814 or the Situation Unit Controller at (215) 271-4807.
