NORFOLK DREDGING NEW CASTLE RANGE DREDGING
Norfolk Dredging will be conducting dredge operations in New Castle Range of the Delaware River beginning October 1, 2014 and ending on November 15, 2014. During this operation the U.S. Coast Guard will be establishing a safety zone closing Pea Patch Island anchorage #5 and the upper portion of Reedy Point South anchorage #3. All vessels will be prohibited from transiting or anchoring in Pea Patch Island anchorage #5 for the duration of the operation. THE SAFETY ZONE FOR REEDY POINT SOUTH ANCHORAGE #3 WILL BE NORTH OF A LINE DRAWN BETWEEN POSITIONS 39°33’7.5”N, 75°33’2.0”W AND 39°33’8.8”N, 75°32’31.8”W, AS CHARTED ON NOAA CHART 12311. VESSELS TRANSITING TO OR FROM THE CHESAPEAKE AND DELAWARE CANAL WILL TRANSIT THROUGH THIS AREA TO AVOID INTERFERING WITH THE DREDGE ESSEX AND ALL RELATED DREDGE EQUIPMENT. A BROADCAST NOTICE TO MARINERS AND LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS WILL BE ISSUED WHEN THE SAFETY ZONE FOR ANCHORAGE #3 IS ESTABLISHED.
The dredge ESSEX will be operating in New Castle Range, working from north to south in the channel, starting in the vicinity of Killcohook National Wildlife Refuge. Mariners are cautioned to remain a safe distance away from the dredge, buoys, cables, pipeline, barges, derricks, wires, and related equipment. Submerged pipeline will be placed to facilitate dredging. Monitor VHF channel 16 for information on the pipe-laying operation.
Traffic should call the dredge ESSEX at least 30 minutes prior to passage. The dredge ESSEX will monitor VHF channels 13 and 16. Mariners are urged to use extreme caution and operate at minimum steerage speed to reduce wake when transiting the area.
Any questions should be directed to the Coast Guard Command Center at (215) 271-4807 or channel 16 VHF.
