NAVAL VESSEL PROTECTION ZONE
Mariners are advised that the USS SOMERSET will be moored at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia, PA on the Delaware River from Friday, February 21, 2014 until Sunday, March 2, 2014. At all times, including when moored, a 500 yard radius Naval Vessel Protection Zone (NVPZ) will be in place around the USS SOMERSET, as described in 33 CFR 165.2025(d). All vessels transiting through the 500 yard NVPZ shall operate at the minimum speed necessary to maintain a safe course and shall proceed as directed by the Coast Guard vessel on scene.
Within this NVPZ no vessel is allowed within a 100 yards of the ship unless authorized by the Coast Guard vessel on scene. While the vessel is moored, the 100 yard radius will cover the entire width of the Navigation channel.
Vessels may request permission to pass the moored vessel by contacting the Coast Guard Captain of the Port’s designated representative on VHF channel 16 with as much notification as possible.
Any questions should be directed to the Coast Guard Command Center at (215) 271-4807 or channel 16 VHF.
