DREDGING OPERATION DELAWARE RIVER, CHERRY ISLAND RANGE
The Coast Guard is establishing a temporary safety zone around the northern half of the Deepwater Point Anchorage No. 6 in the Delaware River. Norfolk Construction and the Dredge ESSEX have been contracted by the Army Corps of Engineers for maintenance dredging in Cherry Island Range. Submerged pipeline will be present in the anchorage to facilitate the project. The temporary safety zone is effective from September 10, 2013 until October 15, 2013 unless cancelled earlier by the Captain of the Port. The safety zone will encompass all waters of Deepwater Anchorage #6 from the northeast corner of the anchorage at position 39º42.68` N, 075º29.87` W to the northwest corner of the anchorage at position 39º42.84` N, 075º30.38` W, south along the eastern channel boundary to position 39º42.44` N, 075º30.53` W, east to position 39º42.48` N, 075º30.06` W, then north to the first position. The dredge ESSEX will begin dredging at the northern end of the Cherry Island dredging area and proceed southward in the east half of the channel. They will then dredge from North to South in the west half of the channel.
Mariners are cautioned to remain a safe distance away from the dredge, buoys, cables, pipeline, barges, derricks, wires, and related equipment.
Traffic should call the Dredge ESSEX at least 30 minutes prior to passage to arrange passage. The Dredge ESSEX will monitor channels 13 and 16 and can be contacted by phone at 757-353-0455. Mariners are urged to use extreme caution and operate at minimum steerage speed to reduce wake when transiting the area.
Any questions should be directed to the Coast Guard Command Center at (215) 271-4807 or channel 16 VHF.
