MARINE SAFETY INFORMATION BULLETIN

[MSIB # 19-12]

October 30, 2012

NOTICE OF HURRICANE SEASONAL ALERT

The Captain of the Port, Sector Delaware Bay, has determined that Hurricane SANDY has diminished and poses no further threat to the port. Initial port assessments have been completed and will continue until all hazards are identified and mitigated. The Port Condition has been downgraded from Zulu to a Seasonal Alert; this is an update to MSIB # 18-12. All normal cargo operations may resume throughout the Port at the discretion of terminal operators and within their own safety limitations due to the possibly of continued wind gusts over the next 48 hours.

Mariners are advised to take caution when transiting the river and bay due to swift currents and the increased presence of debris and other hazards to navigation. It should also be assumed that all Aids to Navigation are unreliable until the Coast Guard can conduct verification of each aid. The Captain of the Port Sector Delaware Bay strongly encourages mariners of small recreational vessels and vessels made of non steel material to avoid transiting the waterway until tides and debris volume return to normal levels.

The Coast Guard continues to ask for a collaborative effort from port members in reporting any hazardous conditions or breakaway of vessels over the course of the next few days until all Port conditions return to normal.

If there are any questions regarding the contents of this bulletin or expectations of the Captain of the Port, please contact (215) 271-4807.
