MARINE SAFETY INFORMATION BULLETIN

[MSIB #26-15]

June 17, 2015

Delaware River Safety Zones – Tall Ships Events

To mitigate the risks associated with the Tall Ships Philadelphia Camden 2015 Parade of Sail, the Captain of the Port (COTP) Delaware Bay, will enforce a safety zone in the vicinity of the parade of sail from 12:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on June 25, 2015. The safety zone will encompass the waters of the Delaware River, adjacent to Philadelphia, PA, bounded in the West by the Pennsylvania shoreline, bounded in the East by the Eastern edge of the navigation channel, bounded in the South by the Walt Whitman Bridge, and bounded on the North by the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. In addition, the safety zone includes all waters of the Delaware River South of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge to an East-West line from the Northern end of Wiggins Marina in Camden, NJ, (39º56’32” N and 075º07’56” W) to the Pennsylvania shoreline.

To mitigate the risks associated with the Tall Ships Philadelphia Camden 2015 Fireworks, the COTP Delaware Bay, will establish a temporary safety zone in the Delaware River adjacent to Philadelphia, PA, and Camden, NJ, from 8:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on June 27, 2015. The safety zone will restrict vessel traffic in the Delaware River, adjacent to Penn’s Landing, Philadelphia, PA, bounded from shoreline to shoreline, bounded on the south by a line running east to west from points along the shoreline at latitude 39°56′31.2″ N., longitude 075°08′28.1″ W.; thence to latitude 39°56′29.1″ N., longitude 075°07′56.5″ W., and bounded on the North by the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.

The COTP’s representative will be on scene during these events and can be contacted on VHF channel 16. Entry into, transiting, or anchoring within the safety zone is prohibited unless authorized by the COTP Delaware Bay, or his on-scene representative. Once operations are concluded, an informational broadcast will inform mariners that the safety zone is no longer being enforced.

If you have any questions regarding the contents of this bulletin or the expectations of the COTP, please contact the Waterways Management staff at (215) 271-4814 or the Situation Unit Controller at (215) 271-4807.
